SUSAN GILBERT, LMSW, MFA
Adults, Writing Workshops
An experienced, clinician and writer, I believe in the power of self expression through words, writing, and a collaborative, trusting relationship between client and therapist. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment which promotes positive change. I have worked extensively with adults coping with loss, anxiety, depression, family conflict and
relationship issues.
Empathic and compassionate, my treatment approach is solution-focused and strength based. I incorporate elements of cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, supportive and dynamic psychotherapy, and mindfulness practice to encourage emotional well being. I am committed to assisting clients overcome the debilitating beliefs that prevent them from enhancing their lives.
An early career in publishing allowed me to pursue my love for reading, writing, and communication. My young adult novel, Love You Like a Sister, was published in 2020. A relatable story about family, loyalty and drug addiction, LYLAS can be found on Amazon and most epub platforms. Proceeds from the novel benefit the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) and Peekskill's Hope for Youth Foundation.
I encourage honest communication where clients can explore issues of self, connection, purpose, and fulfillment. Whether one is struggling to move forward in grief, working on improving or ending a relationship, contemplating a career transformation, or looking for a better understanding of internal strife, I work closely with my clients to facilitate personal growth.

Personal Interests
When not working, I spend time with family at home in Westchester and near the beach whenever possible. My interests include reading, writing, swimming, yoga practice, and long walks with my dogs wherever I happen to find myself.
