Jessica Matero is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a specialization in substance abuse. Ms. Matero is an International Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) and a U.S. Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Ms. Matero has several years of experience providing psychotherapeutic treatment to adults in an individual and group setting with requests for couples and family counseling. Ms. Matero received her clinical training from Pace University earning a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree with honors from State University of New York at University at Albany.

Ms. Matero believes in providing care that is individualized to each individuals needs. She takes an empathic, supportive approach to treatment to help individuals work through their substance use, mood issues, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress and trauma, and life transitions to feel empowered. By creating a safe, judgement free space, individuals are able to explore and work on overcoming problems. Ms. Matero utilizes techniques from Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy to work collaboratively with individuals to help to achieve a transformative experience based on their unique process of change and growth.

Ms. Matero is currently a counselor in a substance abuse treatment program providing medication assisted treatment for opioid addictions. As a SAP Ms. Matero is able to evaluate Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, and United States Coast Guard workers who have violated a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol program regulation. Ms. Matero conducts assessments and makes recommendations concerning the education, treatment, follow-up testing and continuing care for these workers.

Ms. Matero was invited to participate in a panel discussion with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, The First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, Deputy Mayor Dr. Herminia Palacio, and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett to discuss how to turn the tide in the battle against America’s opioid crisis. Ms. Matero is a member of the American Counseling Association and the New York Mental Health Counselors Association.
